Marine Science Day

Marine Science Day is back in-person!
Since 2008, the 4th graders have been fortunate enough to experience Marine Science Day - a day of integrated learning at the Clinton Town Beach. Last year (due to Covid) this special day was offered to the students virtually.

Knowing that many of the Covid restrictions were lifted, we were ecstatic to be able to offer this experience LIVE to the current 4th grade class.

The students rotated through 3 different stations with 2 activities at each station, making it 6 different activities in total.

The stations offered were as follows:
1 a. All about Oysters (Al Walker, Wayne Church & Clinton Shellfish Commission)
1.b. Microplastics in Long Island Sound (Morgan Chemistry Teacher Karen Kaestle and students)
2.a. "Relative Size” (Joel Math teachers Kate Madura and Heidi Hayes - integrating math measurements)
2.b. Long Island Sound live animal touch tank (Dana Skidmore - 4th-grade teacher)
3.a. Osprey Conservation (Mike Houde - President of the Clinton Land Trust)
3.b. Shorebird Migrations (Morgan Marine Science Teacher Emily Lisy & Students)

Bringing together the community (Shellfish Commission & The Clinton Land Trust) as well as Joel colleagues and our Morgan colleagues made the day extra memorable. The Morgan students were so knowledgeable and truly served as role models to our Joel kids. All in all, it was a day of exploration and discovery under perfect blue skies and warm temperatures.
